Progress update

Today the craft studio is awash with scrap fabrics and threads. I thought I'd share a little with you of what goes into our pretty ruffle skirts!

According to my calculations, it takes almost 100 tetrahedron scraps to make one knee length ruffled skirt! A lot of time is spent on the sewing machine sewing all the bits together.

In these boxes are all the scraps that will go into the next batch of ruffled skirts! Boxes and boxes of super cute fabrics :-)
Here's a skirt that's almost finished. I really like the color combinations for this one.

Stay tuned to the blog and our etsy shop to see how the finished skirts turn out. Soon we'll have more new products coming out as well, in addition to the new skirts. I hope you're as excited as I am!

Love and etc,

Free Motion Dino Quilt

So this weekend I tried my hand at free motion quilting for the first time. I found a lot of great tips from http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-14-freemotion-quilting.html which helped get me started. The end result was a big fluffy dino quilt for my little nephew.

I've got to say, after reading the tips on the Oh Fransson website, I expected this quilt to be a breeze. In actuality, manipulating yards of fabric back and fourth and back and fourth over and over again was honestly kind of exhausting! The whole thing took me an entire day to complete but I think it turned out nicely. I especially like the way the soft fleece feels when covered in all the squiggly sewing.
If you're thinking of doing your own free motion quilt, The main piece of advice that I have for you is not to choose a fabric that stretches. The fabric can stretch weirdly in between the squiggles which looks a little odd in some places.
Overall though, I love the way the quilt looks and I'll be sure to do better the next time I feel up to quilting again. Which probably won't be for a while. I'm tired.

Holiday Joy

This year for Christmas I got what any great crafter can never have too much of: plastic storage containers to organize this mess I've created!

As you can see, my sewing area is becoming overcrowded. I can't wait to move in a few months, maybe the house we pick will have an extra room for all my craft junk! :D

Started working with polymer clays earlier this week so I figured I'd upload a few photos of what I've done so far. I'd really like to get good at doing canes so I can make charms of anime characters or pokemon haha.
Coins are included in the photos for size comparison and to make the pics seem more pirate-y.
