Free Motion Dino Quilt

So this weekend I tried my hand at free motion quilting for the first time. I found a lot of great tips from http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-14-freemotion-quilting.html which helped get me started. The end result was a big fluffy dino quilt for my little nephew.

I've got to say, after reading the tips on the Oh Fransson website, I expected this quilt to be a breeze. In actuality, manipulating yards of fabric back and fourth and back and fourth over and over again was honestly kind of exhausting! The whole thing took me an entire day to complete but I think it turned out nicely. I especially like the way the soft fleece feels when covered in all the squiggly sewing.
If you're thinking of doing your own free motion quilt, The main piece of advice that I have for you is not to choose a fabric that stretches. The fabric can stretch weirdly in between the squiggles which looks a little odd in some places.
Overall though, I love the way the quilt looks and I'll be sure to do better the next time I feel up to quilting again. Which probably won't be for a while. I'm tired.
